The Main elements of the actions of the project composed of rehabilitation works of water-catchments, farm canals and feeder roads by workers from poor drought affected agro-pastoral households in the districts of Garbahaarey/Buur Dhuubo, Belet Xaawo and Luuq, Gedo region Somalia and working on the basis of Cash for Work at the rate US$ 3 per person per day for 60 days plus 12 days of free cash payment at same rate.

Communities were mobilized and sensitized in close consultation with local administration, communal elders and relief committees. 16 water-catchments, 52 canals and 9 feeder roads were identified for rehabilitation through CFW in cooperation. 2,611 beneficiaries of whom 1,279 beneficiaries are from the riverine community and 1,332 beneficiaries from agro-pastoral community were identified, selected and registered to carry out rehabilitation work through CFW.

List of communities and infrastructure, list of beneficiaries and list of activities targeted, as defined through the relevant stakeholders and community meetings were submitted to FAO Somalia. Liaise with main food vendors in the markets where beneficiaries purchase their food items were liaised with in order to ascertain the availability of basic food commodities and commodity price information, as compatible with the prevalent security situation, and provided weekly market prices to FAO Somalia.

NAPAD organized beneficiaries into groups of 50 each to work under the supervision of one foreman who is charged with the supervision of rehabilitation works. NAPAD reported to FAO Somalia office in Nairobi on the progress of rehabilitation on a weekly basis using the relevant formats made available by FAO. NAPAD Ensured proper maintenance of all payment documentation including voucher books and weekly payroll sheet, as per details reported under Annex I. NAPAD Prepared and issue to each beneficiary Weekly payment voucher slips, ensured adequate liaison with the money vendor for the effective payment of the weekly compensation.
